Living on an island half my life has given me a greater appreciation of seafood. I ALWAYS got the freshest, tastiest seafood at home, for a fraction of the cost of what it would be in most places. As a result, you can imagine my despair when I moved to a land-locked country where the variety is limited and expensive. So, whenever I get home sick (home is where you mom cooks your favorite food), I try and find simple meals to make me feel like I’ve been given a hug by my favorite crazy aunt, who alway’s greets me with, “sit down and eat!”.

Anyway…. This is my “go to” meal when I need something easy, tasty and from the sea. Tangy, garlicky, spicy crab meat on quinoa.

Here’s what you need:

  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 cup cooked crabmeat (I used canned crab meat, but fresh is best)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • chili flakes, to taste
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • cooked quinoa

  1. Heat sesame oil in a pan, put in minced garlic and cook until fragrant, making sure not to burn the garlic. Turn off heat, add crab meat, lemon juice, chili flakes, salt and pepper toss around and serve on quinoa. Enjoy!
